In December, 1997, we attended our first meeting of the RI Aircooled VW Association (now the RI VW Association). It was a new club at the time, and had not yet held any events beyond their monthly meetings. The New Beetle was about to be unveiled, and would be at the North American Auto Show at the Convention Center in Providence, RI in February. Alyce Jacquet noted that since she and her husband owned a house just two blocks away, it would be the perfect place to host an informal show in conjunction with the Auto Show. Eric and myself made up fliers, and postered the street from the Convention Center to Alyce and J.P.'s house. Club members showed up early in the morning, lining the street with beetles. We all had breakfast, then headed down to the Auto Show, to distribute hand bills and check out the New Beetle!
